Yet another Catholic Church scandal is making news in Guam. Over twenty alleged sex abuse victims in Guam have spoken out about the Catholic sex abuse they endured. Advocates for the twenty alleged sex abuse victims want the Catholic Church and the Archdiocese to publish the names of the priests that are accused of Catholic priest abuse if they have worked or still work on Guam. It seems nowhere is immune to clergy abuse, priest abuse, and church sexual abuse these days.

If you have a clergy abuse, priest abuse, church sex abuse, or sex abuse case in Guam, time is of the essence. The Archdiocese of Agana is fighting two different bills that are looking to remove the Statute of Limitations on child sex crimes. The bills also want to allow a 2 year Statute of Limitations for civil cases to be filed against sex abusers as well.

The Archdiocese is actively opposing Bill 34-31 with the argument that it is being created to target the Catholic church, not to protect innocent child sex abuse victims. The Archdiocese fears the bill as it will retroactively suspend the Statute of Limitation, allowing older clergy abuse and sex abuse injury suits to be filed.

The other Bill, Bill 33-31, wants to eliminate the Statute of Limitations in regards to sex abuse crimes committed against minors, but not retroactively. Either way, this marks progress in regards to filing sex abuse suits in Guam, hopefully helping to put an end to the clergy abuse, priest abuse, and sex abuse scandals that have rocked the United States Territory.
